Every Friday I run through five things I’m looking forward to finding out as we head into another weekend of college football.

This week’s topics include cupcake scheduling (it’s week 4!), a preview of the Texas A&M @ Arkansas matchup, my guess as to who might lose their ranking next week, and my picks as I go up against the NFL Draft Punks in their Pick 6 competition.

What’s on record this weekend?

Given I’m still not through watching last week’s games, maybe the answer to this should be nothing. But with LSU @ Mississippi State, Texas Tech @ Texas and the Texas A&M @ Arkansas clashes all on TV on Saturday evening and all likely to feature a number of prospects worth casting my eyes over, I’m not giving my Sky box, or myself, a rest this week – that’s for sure!

Speaking of that Texas A&M @ Arkansas game…

What a matchup this threatens to be!

On the offensive side of the ball you’ve got two young quarterbacks still learning their way, two running backs carrying the load (Isaiah Spiller and Trelon Smith) and showing they are up to the challenge, and two receiving threats (Jalen Wydermyer and Treylon Burks) proving why they’re being talked about as potential first round draft picks.

And then on the other side of the ball you’ve got the #1 ranked passing defense in Texas A&M, and high flying sophomore safety Jalen Catalon patrolling the secondary for Arkansas.

Weird matchup of the week

We’re into week 4 people and so of course we’ve got some heavyweight clashes including Georgia State @ Auburn and Akron @ Ohio State.

But after their hard fought game with Florida last week, Alabama are going to have to make sure they’re at their best once again as they take on the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles. The visitors are 44.5 point underdogs – so answers on a postcard if you can explain what the point of this game is please?!

Who’s losing their ranking this week?

I’ve been pretty good at getting these right over the last couple of weeks, so here’s a couple more potential ones to watch if you want to see a top 25 team get beaten.

UCLA @ Stanford – the Bruins are currently #24 but this is a difficult road trip for them and (spoiler alert!) I’m picking Stanford to win this one.

I also think Tennessee @ Florida will be closer than a lot of people think – though I’m not sure I’d take the Volunteers to win.

And finally…

The NFL Draft Punks have challenged me to take them on in their Pick 6 competition this weekend so in the interest of full disclosure here are my picks:

Notre Dame @ Wisconsin – Notre Dame – a combination of momentum (3 straight wins to start the year for the Fighting Irish) and the Kyle Hamilton effect give Notre Dame the edge in this one for me.

Kentucky @ South Carolina – Kentucky – We know Will Levis isn’t afraid to air it out and Chris Rodriguez will run the ball more effectively than anyone can for South Carolina, so give me the Wildcats in this one.

UCLA @ Stanford – Stanford – everyone was on the UCLA hype train until they were beaten by Fresno State last week. After losing to Kansas State in week 2, Stanford have picked up two good wins over USC and Vanderbilt and I expect their good run to continue here at home.

Boise State @ Utah State – Boise State – Utah State have played a cupcake schedule up to now and I think the Broncos will have far too much for them.

Louisville @ Florida State – Florida State – this has to be the week FSU turn it around, right?

LSU @ Mississippi State – LSU – I find it hard to believe in Mississippi State after they lost to Memphis last week and I trust in LSU’s ability to score points.
